Christine Jones Forman

Director, Consortium for Unlocking the Mysteries of the Universe and Senior Astrophysicist

Christine Jones Forman is director of the Consortium for Unlocking the Mysteries of the Universe, one of the four grand challenges of the Smithsonian’s strategic plan. The Grand Challenges are the priorities that will guide the Smithsonian’s work over the next decade. The consortia directors and their committee consider proposals for innovative research, exhibitions and programs from all over the Institution and determine which ones will receive funding. Jones Forman is also a senior astrophysicist at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics. Her research focuses on the structure and growth of clusters of galaxies and feedback from supermassive black holes in galaxies and clusters. She is the group leader for Chandra calibration, vice president of the American Astronomical Society and the president of Division XI Investigator for the Center for Astrophysics Research Experiences for Undergraduates.
