Ann T. Speyer
Smithsonian Chief Information Officer

Ann T. SpeyerAnn T. Speyer is the Smithsonian’s chief information officer. She served as the acting chief information officer since September 2006. Speyer is the senior executive responsible for the Institution’s information technology infrastructure and systems. She has full strategic and tactical responsibility for the direction, planning, creation and operation of the Institution’s information technology infrastructure, telecommunications services, and end-user support services and training.

 

Prior to her appointment as chief information officer, she served as the Institution’s chief technology officer since August 2005. Speyer has been instrumental in bringing free public wireless Internet access to several museums and gardens on the National Mall and more than doubling the enterprise storage capacity required for digital assets that preserve and provide access to Smithsonian collections.

 

Before joining the Smithsonian, Speyer was the director of business technology optimization for the Program Support Center at the Department of Health and Human Services in Rockville, Md. While there, she led a number of enterprise initiatives related to the president’s management agenda and the department’s “One HHS” vision.

 

From 2000 to 2003, she was the vice president for development and operations at Gelco Information Network in Reston, Va., were she oversaw many departments, including professional services, product development, quality assurance and technical support.

 

Speyer served as the director of PeopleSoft Consulting at PeopleSoft Inc. from 1997 to 2000, during which she established a federal consulting organization that specialized in implementing Enterprise Resource Planning solutions for government clients. In addition, she has held various positions in the information technology industry with Litton/PRC, Andersen Consulting, KPMG Peat Marwick and General Dynamics.

 

Speyer received her bachelor’s degree in mathematics and computer science from Mississippi College in 1983.
