Brent D. Glass, Director, National Museum of American History

Brent D. Glass became director of the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History in December 2002. He was named the Elizabeth MacMillan Director of the museum in 2008.

The National Museum of American History reopened to the public Nov. 21 after a two-year renovation of its center core. During its reopening year, Glass oversaw the addition of more than 20 exhibitions, including “Abraham Lincoln: An Extraordinary Life” and “On the Water: Stories from Maritime America,” as well as the presentation of 80 public programs and 2,500 theater performances. More than 4.5 million visitors came to see the results of the renovation, a 40% increase over previous years.
