The placement of the mouthpiece on the end rather than the side indicates this hunting horn was carved for foreign use. One of three surviving examples by the same hand, its elaborate relief carvings include European hunting scenes, heraldic devices and inscriptions. It was commissioned to mark a significant event in the histories of Portugal and Spain.
