Smithsonian Books is publishing a graphic novel series called Secret Smithsonian Adventures in which four middle-schoolers visiting the Smithsonian discover that someone is tampering with history, so they must use their history and science knowledge to thwart these evil plots. Each book in the series ties in with a different Smithsonian museum or gallery and its subject area.

The first two volumes, The Wrong Wrights and Claws and Effect, set at the National Air and Space Museum and National Museum of Natural History respectively, were released in 2016. The third volume, It’s Treason, by George!, comes out Oct. 3. Schoolmates Dominique, Eric, Josephine and Ajay return to the Smithsonian, this time to the National Museum of American History. To their confusion, the museum’s “American Presidency” exhibition has been replaced with one on America’s monarchs. They discover that a villain is impersonating George Washington and trying to crown himself king. Enlisting the help of founding fathers Alexander Hamilton and Thomas Mifflin and enslaved servant Oney Judge, and using their American history smarts, the heroes must try to thwart this plot to change history.
