National Museum of African American History and Culture

The National Museum of African American History and Culture has collected a variety of objects as part of its mission to document the decades-long struggle for freedom, justice and equality. This includes an initiative to document the growth and the impact of contemporary movements for social justice.

The museum uses selected items to show the evolution and continuity of protest in America. Items owned by Colin Kaepernick were collected as part of that initiative.

Of the nearly 40,000 items in the museum’s collection, about 3,000 items are on view. The context in which the museum presents exhibitions of these and all museum objects is dynamic and evolves over time.

The museum has not placed the Kaepernick items on view, and there are no plans for an exhibition on Kaepernick.
